An older looking, reused shipping box has a story to it. Where has it been? What’s been shipped in those cardboard walls? Post offices across the nation see hundreds of packages each day; some brand new, others old. For many people it’s a habit to purchase a crisp new box for each shipment. Take a step back and think about your consumption choice. Maybe there is another way…
There are many cost-saving and environmentally-friendly ways to ship packages, such as reusing old shipping boxes or shoe boxes rather than buying new ones. eBay’s Green Team has put great thought into this idea as they came up with a solution for recycling packing boxes and shipping materials. It’s called the eBay box. This cardboard box has bold text all over it making it clear that it’s not to be thrown out! Use it multiple times and share your story.
eBay designed the inside of their boxes so that individual shippers can write where the box has previously been. The boxes are made of 100% recycled material with a design that requires little tape. The company has sold over 1,700 reusable shipping boxes have already been registered and used. The company suggests that the reuse of these 1,700 boxes has saved over 8,000 gallons of water, the energy power of 13 homes for an entire week, and a reduction in pollution, equal to 18 cars on the road.
So next time you send a package, think before you buy a brand new box or take part in eBay’s green initiative! You can make a difference with just one package!
